About Salsa Sundays!

Every Sunday (unless it rains) Original Boardwalk Salsa in Oakland at the Brooklyn Basin.

Sundays from 1 PM – 4:20 PM
Location: 288 9th Avenue, Oakland, CA 94606.

There is free street parking, and a small free nearby parking lot, but they fill up quickly.

There is a free parking lot about a 10-minute walk away at the Aquatic Center. There is also an expensive parking lot that is closer but charges $5/hr instead of a flat daily rate.

There is bench seating near the large wooden dance deck. The bathrooms nearby are unisex, generally clean, and have paper towels. This is a FREE event!

There is a nearby food stand. There is a German restaurant that is a 5-minute walk away. There is also a Subway about a 10-minute walk away. Otherwise, you’ll need to bring your own food and water.

There is no shade so you’ll need to wear a hat and/or sunglasses or bring your own canopy chair. The area is BEAUTIFUL! You can watch the sailboats pass by. There are families who bike in the area and a lot of rollerbladers.

The weather is usually great, but you should dress in layers or bring a jacket. I LOVE the beautiful bay view which keeps me coming back for more! I give this venue an overall rating of 5 out of 5 dancers! 💃🏾

Sundays:

We start at 1pm, and we end at 4:30 p.m. Sharp.

It has gotten really cold, and it’s getting dark by 5:00 p.m. and we want the DJ to be able to pick up all his equipment during daylight hours, and we want everyone walking safely to their cars during daylight hours.
New rules:

Because of the weather being so warm, we are going to start the dancing at 1 pm. We may even change it again, to a later time, if needed. Please stay tuned.

We have also put a map, where there is paid parking, and if you go to the left of this map, there is plenty of free street parking. It is about a 5 to 10 minute walk to the boardwalk.

We have also been told that there is a Brooklyn Basin Free shuttle, that brings you from Jack London Square! We will look into that and get a schedule up for you, if you are interested in that mode of transportation.

Lots of people are also, carpooling, Uber/Lyft, biking, roller skating, using electric scooters, Barting from the Lake Merritt BART station, that also offers, $3 all-day parking!

New parking rules!

As our neighborhood evolves, Brooklyn Basin will continue to accommodate public parking on weekends by opening approximately 175 spaces in our paid and gated lot where we have added new pedestrian paths for access. You’ll find the new lot on Embarcadero at 7th Avenue. The lot is opening this weekend, May 21-22.
