The Solano AIDS Coalition cordially invites you to celebrate our 9th anniversary of the Vallejo Patriotic Festival, a cultural event that brings together community members to celebrate Mexican Independence Day and other Latin American countries.
Come and enjoy live entertainment, folk ballet, mariachi music, solo singers, Trio music, traditional food, popular art, classic car exhibition, and much more.
History:
Fiestas Patrias stands as a momentous occasion in Mexico, a fervent national holiday that pays tribute to the historic independence from Spain. Much like the renowned American Independence Day on July 4th, Fiestas Patrias holds great significance in Mexican culture. Although Mexico’s commemoration does not adhere strictly to the exact date of their liberation, it stands as a testament to the resolute calling for a sovereign nation.
On the monumental day of September 16th, Father Miguel Hidalgo, the dedicated parish priest from the humble town of Dolores, rallied his fellow Mexicans in a passionate plea for the overthrow of oppressive Spanish dominion. This remarkable event, known as the Grito de Dolores (the cry), reverberates in the hearts of Mexicans nationwide. Today, this historic proclamation continues to be widely celebrated throughout Mexico, symbolizing the undying spirit of freedom and unity.
