It’s a beautiful and important new musical that tells the story of Beatriz and her estranged daughter Olivia, who reunite for a cross-country journey. On their trip, Olivia learns that her mother is undocumented, and the two of them encounter a tamal vendor, an elderly gay couple, and a Yellowstone junior ranger who help them reconnect along the way.

Olivia hasn’t seen her mother Beatriz in four years. Now they’re packed together in an old truck on an epic road trip.

From Philadelphia to California, the pair try to reconnect as they make friends along the way. But Beatriz is an undocumented immigrant about to be deported to Mexico, and time is running out.

“Miss You Like Hell,” an important and intimate new musical by Quiara Alegría Hudes (“In the Heights”) and Erin McKeown is now on stage through Feb. 26, presented by City Lights and Teatro Visión with English and Spanish titles.

Rodrigo García directs a fantastic cast: Jessica Osegueda, Alycia Adame, Ken Boswell, Joel Butler, Ricardo Cortés, Kennedy Dawson, Naomi Evans, Lazarita Sapien, Ugho Badú and Francisco Medina.  Read more in an article here.

At City Lights Theater, masks are recommended indoors, except for the “mask-required” performances on Feb. 4, 9 and 12. City Lights recommends but does not require the Covid vaccine. The Accessible Icon  The City Lights Theater is wheelchair-accessible. You can book ADA & Companion seats when buying tickets. ADA seating is available at the Mexican Heritage Plaza Theater, in the main level of the audience chamber and on the balcony. There are elevators to the balcony on the right side of the theater lobby. There are no steps leading into the theater from the Plaza, which is accessible via ramps from the parking lots on both King Rd. and Alum Rock Ave.
