About event:

Mission Loteria, an event planning group that supports Latin-owned businesses, is hosting the look-alike contest in honor of the Puerto Rican superstar, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio.

The event is set to take place at the Mission District Mexican restaurant Tacolicious on Feb. 5, three days before the big game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

The organizer:

Mission Loteria also plans to host its classic lotería, often called Mexican bingo, but “with a reggaetón twist.”

Mission Lotteria previously hosted a Selena look-alike contest at Dolores Park last spring to mark the 30th anniversary of the Mexican American singer’s death. Known as the “Queen of Tejano Music,” Selena was killed in 1995.

There have also been look-alike contests dedicated to Oakland native and “Euphoria” star Zendaya, British actor Dev Patel and the stereotypical performative man, all stemming from the social trend that went the viral after a Timothée Chalamet look-alike contest in New York City in November 2024.

Bad Bunny has been in the global spotlight since his halftime show performance was announced in the fall, sparking outrage from President Donald Trump and his supporters, many of whom have taken issue with his political beliefs.

Nonetheless, the teaser video to his performance, released last week, has broken the world record for most-liked Super Bowl teaser. With more than 8 million likes as of Tuesday, Jan. 20, the clip has already beat out teaser videos from recent Super Bowl halftime performers Rihanna and Kendrick Lamar by millions.
