About event:
La Mezcla founder Vanessa Sanchez has been developing this new choreography and musical arrangement since December 2024. The piece explores cultural and rhythmic connections between Cuba and Veracruz, MX, using tap dance, Afro Caribbean movements and son jarocho to tell stories of resistance and independence, and explore the African influence in Latine traditions.
From December 1-5, we will be working with visiting dancers and musicians from New York City as well as local artists to develop this new piece in a bi-coastal residency. This week of development will culminate with a presentation on Saturday, December 6 in our rehearsal studio at Brava Theater. It will be an opportunity to share and connect these new ideas with our community. We’d love to see you there!
